Are you Team Jacob or Team Edward? A question that has divided teen girls for 20 years. Twilight may not be loved by all, but there’s no doubt that it has fans. This year, The Twilight Saga will be returning to theaters for its 20th anniversary. So, we have decided to tackle the question – what movie takes the cake?
Starting off lousy, with arguably the worst movie in the series, is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. In our Twilight enthusiast opinions, this film has zero redeeming qualities. It fails in every way, even compared to what the second-worst installment has accomplished. However, on IMDB it is rated 5/10, beating the popular New Moon, so it definitely has its defenders.
Following close behind, better by a small margin, is The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The biggest factor that destroys this movie is its absolutely atrocious and diabolical pacing. While better paced than Twilight: Breaking Dawn, it is still far from the best in the series. However, the soundtrack is immaculate, featuring a hit from Florence + Machine and Metric’s Eclipse (All Yours), which ends the movie off on a weighty tone. It is worth giving them a listen.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, while better than its predecessor, still isn’t the best in the series. It has its shortcomings, such as bad CGI and writing, but also has a few successes, such as a superb ending to the franchise. The ending, without giving away too many spoilers, wraps up the story in an excellent way that makes your heart soar. Renesmee, while controversial, adds a certain charm to the storyline that can never be replicated. However, the peculiar plot development featuring “imprinting,” without giving too much away, significantly lowers this movie’s rank.
The penultimate best movie in the series is The Twilight Saga: New Moon. This was the last “good” movie in the Twilight series, and stirred the most controversy among Twilight fans as they tried to defend why their favored boy was best for Bella. However, this is the longest film in the franchise, and that fact undoubtedly weighs it down from the coveted number one spot.
The best in the series, to nobody’s surprise, is the first film in the series, Twilight. This shining example of a film is a great adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s stellar work. It was the beginning of a phenomenal story, which would only get worse as it continued on. The coloring is breathtaking and influenced films and social media filters for years to come. Twilight is the epitome of excellent movie-making and adaptation, proving that nothing beats the original.
